  • Howdy from sunny Pasadena CA!

Just finished my first week of training and have learned lots about TEFL (teaching English as a Foreign Language) as well as met lots of cool people. There are about 50 of us trainees here, and we're getting to know each other very well since we spend about 14 hours a day with one another!! Training goes from 7:00am to 9:30pm M-F, which is intense, but we learn a lot of useful information...AND we get to practice what we learn in actual ESL classes that are being held at neighboring churches/other sites. Here's a photo of one of our teachers introducing our program to our ESL students.

Will post more later. Thanks for reading!

  • I've been forewarned that working with my country will require patience + flexibility, so I'm not too surprised that some plans have changed + are up in the air at the moment. Goodbye city of the future, goodbye eating buns with straws, and goodbye teammates who I didn't get to know yet. Placement is now pending...

  • For those who don't know, I have recently resigned from my position of 2 years with a magazine company in order to shift gears to something more social work-related. My plans are not clear yet, but here are some possibilities:
    - going to school for Social Work
    - going to school for a teaching credential, then either teaching in the States, or at an international school overseas
    - teaching English overseas
    - getting involved in other kinds of social work in the states or overseas

FOR NOW, just to take some time off as well as to get my feet wet, I will be going to CHINAR! with ESI (Educational Services International) to teach English to college students for the 2007-08 school semester. Yaya! And just last week, I found out where I have been placed. I will be going to a place where they eat buns with a straw.....
